Stories

#1 reason the news mainly reports about murders & other things that aren't positive is because BAD NEWS SELLS. They only talk about how guns kill people but they don't publicize when guns save lives. I believe that's why people focus on guns being bad & are only used to kill people. So I'd like to expose you to the opposite of what you might be used to. If you look on the internet there are many stories of how someone used their concealed handgun to save their life or someone else's. One for example:

What if that man didn't have a concealed weapon? He could have been robbed or even shot.

This man was doing his duty as a father of 4 children & shot his concealed handgun when 3 intruders came into his house.

How can you say concealed weapons are bad when things like these 2 incidents happen? If someone uses their gun properly then it shouldn't be a problem. They're protected by the 2nd amendment of the Constitution anyways.. After watching these videos, I hope for people to have a more positive outlook on concealed handguns.

BIG PICTURE

No matter how many gun regulations/bans the government makes it won't stop criminals getting their hands on guns & committing crimes with them. Don't you think the government knows this? We see it happen everyday all over the news & web. Government officials only makes these worthless laws because they're trying to fulfill their hidden agenda & make money. Criminals are called criminals for a reason; they don't follow the laws. So the only people who are being affected by all these laws are law-abiding citizens. Which in the long run only helps out criminals when committing murder or robbing some place. Think about all the mass murders that have happened in our history. The majority have occurred in places that are gun-free zones. Criminals choose those places carefully because they know all the citizens who obey will not be armed. Gun-free zones only leave citizens un-armed & unprotected.

Positives

I've been waiting to get to this part because I think it holds up to be true & valuable information for all the naysayers to see. The good out weighs the bad, even when it comes to guns. Or at least that's my opinion. I decided to use http://concealedguns.procon.org/ again for one of my sources since it's a reliable source. The pros they give are:
  • Criminals are less likely to attack someone they believe to be armed
  • A study by John Lott, PhD, "shall-issue" laws have reduced homicides by 8.5%, aggravated assaults by 7%, rapes by 5%, & robberies by 3%
  • Owning a concealed handgun makes a person feel safer
  • Majority of adults who carry are law-abiding citizens who don't misuse their firearms
  • Criminals retreat 55.5% when someone draws a handgun in self-defense
“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms…disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. … Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man" - https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/ccm-columns/features/concealed-carry-saves-lives-part-1-values-current-data-and-the-constitution/

If that doesn't stick out to you as it did to me there's something wrong. A wise man, Benjamin Franklin, once said, "Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither"

Drawbacks

I figured I'd start with the drawbacks of concealed handguns first. I have been researching on what would be considered negative to other people out there. According to Ardie Claveria some downfalls to concealed weapons are:
  • your handgun may be taken away from you & possibly used against you
  • if you're not skilled at shooting a handgun you could miss & hit a bystander (still at fault legally & can get in trouble)
On http://concealedguns.procon.org/ it says some other disadvantages:
  1. Carrying a concealed handgun could increase the chances of a confrontation escalating and turning lethal
  2. Chances of a handgun being used inappropriately increase when normally responsible adults are intoxicated, tired, afraid, or untrained in conflict resolution
  3. Criminals are more likely to arm themselves with firearms if they suspect that victims may also be armed
  4. Responsible adults with concealed handguns make it more difficult for police to distinguish criminals from ordinary citizens and to identify perpetrators during a shooting
  5. Concealed handguns are reported to scare other people & make them feel less safe
I personally don't agree with all of these reasons being actual disadvantages, but I'm trying to look at both sides of the spectrum when it comes to concealing handguns. Everything isn't black & white though. You have to take these in for yourself & see what you believe.

Little background

Our life experiences & the way we grew up play a role in the way we act & even in our belief system. My dad was in the army and strongly believes in our rights for owning guns. Ever since I can remember I have grown up around guns being in the house. You can say I've become accustomed to them & even shoot them myself. I'm glad my dad is pro concealed weapons. Since he has at least 6 guns I always feel safe when I'm at home. Knowing if anything were to happen we would be able to protect ourselves. Even when I'm with my dad out & about, he never forgets to bring his concealed handgun with him. When I turn 21 I'm going to get a concealed weapons permit & carry myself.

Survey Analysis

I previously figured I'd do my research on 9/11 but now that I changed it, I find myself facing a problem. The survey I had made has results based on 9/11 which doesn't help me. All though the results are what I was semi hoping for I need to make a new one that will correlate with my new research question. Once I do that I can see a bigger picture of what peoples' beliefs are with concealed weapons.

Change

I've decided I need to switch my topic. As much as I wanted to do it on 9/11, I'm starting to get bored & have lost interest. My new research question is, "Should adults have concealed weapons." I did a project on it so I have lots of prior knowledge I can use. I expect my research will go a lot better & faster.

& so it begins...

I was deciding on what topic to research but I remembered that I've always pondered about this certain topic for awhile now. What really happened on 9/11? We all know that the government told us that it was a terrorist attack but since 9/11 many researchers have stated that the government lied to cover up a conspiracy. Based on that alone I decided to do some of my own research and see what they had to say. I believe this will be worth further digging into and seeing what really went down.
